Growing cherry tomatoes in containers

Cherry tomatoes are one of the most rewarding crops for a sunny balcony.

Go big on the pot

Aim for a container of at least 20 litres (about 5 gallons). Bigger pots dry out more slowly.

Choose compact varieties

Look for 'patio' or 'determinate' types, and give taller plants a cage or stake early.

Water consistently

Water deeply when the top few centimetres of soil are dry. Uneven watering can cause split fruit.
